Stage and event carpet costs ₹25 per square foot, whatever colour you pick. A 2 ft wide runner works out at ₹50 a running foot. A 6 ft wide one is ₹150. So a 6 by 20 ft red carpet is ₹3,000.
That price doesn't budge between red, green and grey. We checked it across every size we sell before putting this up.
What event carpet actually costs
Most suppliers quote per job, which makes comparing anything impossible. So here's the flat rate, and what it comes to at the sizes people actually order.
| Size | Square feet | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 2 x 20 ft | 40 | ₹1,000 |
| 2 x 30 ft | 60 | ₹1,500 |
| 2 x 50 ft | 100 | ₹2,500 |
| 6 x 15 ft | 90 | ₹2,250 |
| 6 x 20 ft | 120 | ₹3,000 |
| 6 x 50 ft | 300 | ₹7,500 |
| 6 x 120 ft | 720 | ₹18,000 |
All 3mm. Red and green are priced the same, and so is grey.
Widths: 2 ft, 4 ft and 6 ft
Width is the real decision, and it's about what the carpet's for rather than what it costs.
2 ft is a runner. Walkways, the gap between exhibition stands, a path across a lawn for an outdoor function. One person wide. It's also the cheapest way to cover distance, at ₹50 a running foot against ₹150 for the 6 ft.
6 ft is the standard red carpet width, and it's what you want for an entrance, an aisle, or anywhere two people walk side by side. If you've seen a red carpet at an awards night, it was almost certainly 6 ft.
4 ft sits in between. Handy for a stage front, or a narrow aisle where 6 ft would overhang.
Pick your width first, then your length. People do it backwards and end up with a runner that's long enough but far too narrow to look like anything.
Working out how much you need
For an aisle, measure the walking distance and add 2 ft at each end, so the carpet starts before people step on it and finishes after. A 30 ft aisle wants a 6 by 34, so call it 6 by 35.
For a stage, measure the platform and order exactly that. Overhang on a stage reads as a mistake, not generosity.
For an exhibition stand, measure the floor and knock off wherever furniture sits flush to the wall. You're only carpeting what people walk on.
Here's a real one. A wedding with a 40 ft aisle and a 12 by 10 ft stage.
- Aisle: 6 x 44 ft, 264 sq ft, ₹6,600
- Stage: 12 x 10 ft, 120 sq ft, ₹3,000, ordered as two 6 ft widths laid side by side
- Total ₹9,600
Colours and what they're for
Red for entrances, weddings, anything that should feel like an occasion. It's the default for good reason and it photographs beautifully under warm light.
Green for garden functions, religious events and sports presentations. It also hides grass stains in a way red never will.
Grey for exhibitions, conferences and corporate stands. Pick it when the event is about what's on the stand rather than the floor. It shows footmarks far less than red does across a three day show.
One use or reusable?
3mm event carpet is made to be laid, used and lifted. Look after it and you'll get several events out of it. Roll it rather than folding it, and keep it dry.
What kills it is tape. Pulling carpet tape off the back takes the backing with it. So if you're planning to reuse it, tape the floor and lay the carpet over the top, or use a removable gripper.
Be honest with yourself though. For a one day function where the carpet's going down on gravel and might get rained on, just buy it as a consumable and don't worry about it.
Frequently asked questions
How much does red carpet cost per foot in India? ₹25 per square foot. At 2 ft wide that's ₹50 a running foot, and at 6 ft wide it's ₹150 a running foot. A 6 by 20 ft red carpet comes to ₹3,000.
What width of red carpet do I need for an aisle? 6 ft for anything people walk down two abreast, which is the standard red carpet width. 2 ft is a single file runner, better suited to walkways and exhibition gangways than an entrance.
Can stage carpet be reused after an event? Yes, several times, as long as you roll it rather than folding it and keep it dry. What ends its life is carpet tape pulling the backing off, so tape the floor instead and lay the carpet over it.
How quickly can event carpet be delivered? Stock sizes ship the same week across India. If you've got a fixed event date, order with a week to spare. A carpet that turns up on the morning has nowhere to go if it's the wrong size.
