Artificial Grass for Balcony in India: A Straight Buying Guide

Most city flats come with a balcony that nobody really uses. Too hot, too bare, and keeping real plants alive out there is a full-time job. Artificial grass fixes all of that in an afternoon, and it looks good doing it.

But not all turf is the same, and the cheap stuff shows its age fast. Here’s what actually matters when you’re buying, so you get a balcony you’ll want to sit on, not one you replace next summer.

Why fake grass just makes sense on a balcony

No watering. No mud. No mowing. It stays green through peak summer and through the monsoon, it doesn’t need sunlight to survive, and it’s soft enough to sit or let kids play on. For a concrete balcony in an Indian apartment, it’s honestly one of the easiest upgrades you can make.

It’s pet-friendly too. Dogs take to it quickly, and cleaning up after them is as simple as a rinse.

The one spec that matters most: pile height

Pile height just means how tall the grass blades are, and it changes everything about how the turf looks and feels. This is the number to check before anything else.

Pile height

Look and feel

Best for

Rough price per sq ft

25mm

Neat, low, easy to clean

Balconies with furniture, walkways

Lower

35mm

Natural, soft, the popular pick

Most balconies and terraces

Mid

40mm

Lush, thick, garden-like

Feature spaces, sitting areas

Higher

For most balconies, 35mm is the sweet spot. It looks real, feels good underfoot, and doesn’t flatten the way shorter piles can under furniture.

The other things worth checking

Pile height gets you most of the way, but a few more things separate turf that lasts from turf that fades.

UV resistance. Indian sun is brutal. Good turf is treated so it won’t go pale and brittle after a season.

Drainage backing. Look for a backing with drainage holes so monsoon water runs straight through instead of pooling.

Density. More stitches packed in means a fuller, more natural look and a longer life.

What it costs, roughly

Price moves with quality, and turf is one of those things where the cheapest option usually costs more in the long run because you replace it sooner. A good mid-range 35mm turf sits in a comfortable middle band, and for a small balcony the total spend is genuinely modest. Buy once, buy decent, and it’ll see you through years.

Laying it yourself

On a balcony you don’t need a professional. Clean the floor, measure up, roll the turf out, trim the edges with a sharp knife, and weigh it down or tape the seams. That’s most jobs done in an hour or two. Give it a brush now and then and a rinse when it needs it, and it stays fresh.

The short version

Pick 35mm for most balconies, check it’s UV-treated with a draining backing, and don’t chase the lowest price. Get that right and you’ve turned dead concrete into the nicest corner of your home.

Take a look at our artificial grass range. Durable, UV-treated, built for Indian weather, with free shipping across the country. Perfect for balconies, terraces and that unused corner you’ve been meaning to sort out.
